Not GTM but still build related. I helped Yos install his clutch and trans-axle for his SL-C. Yos is building a LS9 powered (yes, the super charged LS9) SL-C. It was a pretty uneventful install with the exception of a few busted knuckles he was taking care of when I arrived. I'm looking forward to some GTM/SL-C cruises.

_Took it for a drive this evening, around the neighborhood, to test the magnasteer power steering addition and see how the front shocks felt after adding the front shock fix.
My enthusiasm to get in the garage has increased lately. However my progress is still not what I’d like it to be. It is hard to find time with my family’s busy schedule. Over all the progress is not bad for a GTM build in a two car home garage.
Having completed the power steering addition and getting the GTM out to test the addition has inspired me to push to get it done. The plan is to complete the items that I must do while the body is on. Then move back to the body work. I’m going to complete as much as I can myself and then turn the body over to Tom for painting. I’m getting close to the budget my wife and I set and going this route will allow me to complete the build within it.

Through my entire build I have set out to do everything myself. Even the normal two+ man task were done with the aid of some type of device. I removed and replaced the body. I installed the engine and transaxle. I even evacuated the AC, checked for leaks and serviced it to the vintage air specs. One part of this is the satisfaction of knowing I did it all (with the exception of laying the primer/base/clear) and the second is that is allows me to continue to cash flow the build. So once it’s done there’s no debt.
I had planned to do all of the body work myself. Basically doing everything but laying on the primer, base and clear. I have come to the terms that I do not want the exterior to detract from the effort, attention to detail and never before done accomplishments underneath the body and I don’t want to work on the build for the next two years until I have it all perfect. The fact is that everyone sees the body/paint and forms their perception of the quality of the car or build. The car could be horrendous on the interior fitting details, leak fluids, have electrical issues and smell like gas, but if the paint looks good it’s termed as a “great build” regardless of the short comings. It can be put together and the short comings excepted as is and it will still be a nice car when done, but I want more than just good enough.
With that said I have been blessed to have Tom (Thomas#142) agree to help me through some of the body issues. I visited his shop mid July to meet him and purchase his rear deck spoiler. He also came by Saturday a week ago to take a look at my build and the Gen2. He’s a great Guy, a wizard with composites and is about 90 minutes away.

Instrument Panel Bezel Fabrication started
You may have noticed that my progress has slowed. I expected that the summer would slow my build progress and that I could pick up the pace again once my kids were back in school. Well, that hasn't been the case and my priorities leave me with very limited time for the build.
I have also been battling with my NEMISIS (the power windows) since late August in an attempt to get the frameless window to have a good seal. I am tilting toward a full framed window. I personally prefer the look of the GTM without frames, but I will compromise for windows that don't whistle, don't leak and are not buffeting at speed.

9 October 2021
Put the crossover tube fitting on the fuel tanks. Modified the Telescoping steering column.
8 October 2010
Picked up panels after powder coat. They look good. Black with a low gloss. Crush washers, black rivets and some other stuff I ordered arrived over the last few days. Mounted the front and rear panels that are required before installing the suspension.
5/6 October 2010
I gathered the majority of the panels that can be can be seen or are exposed on the finished GTM. These are now at the powder coat facility. I've chosen a low gloss black so we'll see how they turn out.
2 October 2010
After reading the forum on sealing the fuel tanks I decided to order some crush/Pressure-Sealing washers to replace the nylon ones. It's a molded nitrile rubber sealing element mechanically locked into a zinc-plated steel washer. The AN fittings is 1 1/16". 1" was the largest size and from reading you want things tight here so I ordered four of the 1" washers from McMaster-Car. A fellow forum member used 1" crush washers so I feel confident that they will work well.
29 September-1 October 2010
I finally have the body removed from the frame and stowed. I plan to mark and drill all of the visible panels for powder coat. The fuel tanks are dry and ready for the AN fittings. I have the 3M panel adhesive and an aviation fuel tank sealant. I will use the 3M as others have. After the 3M has dried I will follow it on the inside of the tank with the Aviation tank sealant. In theory this should be the next best option to the aluminum tanks. The 3M makes the fittings and tank one and the aviation sealant will protect the 3M from the fuel??? Time will tell.
